Fighting Together Against Cervical Cancer

Cervical cancer remains the leading cause of cancer-related deaths among women in Uganda, with screening rates in rural areas as low as 4.8%. The burden is particularly heavy among women living with HIV. Barriers such as low awareness, stigma, high transport costs, and long distances to facilities continue to limit access to early detection. Cervical Care Alliance (CCA) was established to bridge these gaps by taking screening services directly to the community-especially rural market centers where women gather on a weekly basis-through partnerships with Village Health Teams (VHTs), local health facilities, and market-vendor associations. By leveraging existing systems and local trust, CCA promotes equitable, affordable, and lifesaving access to cervical cancer screening and referral services.

To reduce cervical cancer deaths by bringing preventive screening and referral services closer to women through community-based outreach, health system partnerships, and data-driven implementation, ensuring that no woman is left behind due to distance, stigma, or poverty.

Frequently AskedQuestions

Cervical cancer is a disease where abnormal cells grow in the cervix. It is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths among women in Uganda, but it can be prevented and treated if detected early.

Prevention includes regular screening, HPV vaccination, and practicing safe health habits. Early detection through screening greatly reduces the risk of developing advanced cervical cancer.

The Cervical Care Alliance partners with local health centers and hospitals to provide screening and vaccination. We also organize community outreach camps to bring services closer to villages and trading centers.

You can support by volunteering in awareness campaigns, donating to help fund screenings and vaccinations, or spreading the word in your community. Every contribution helps save lives.
